Mumbai Travel & street shopping pics

I had shared pics of my haul from New Beauty center in Khar during my last Mumbai trip, on my second trip to Mumbai I went on cliclity-cliick like a Paparazzo!
This time my trip was South Bombay centric- mostly in Colaba,Fort and Juhu area. I came, I shopped & I was conquered.

So come along and enjoy the sights and travel nuggets from Mumbai along with some piping hot cocoa and brownies with me

Gateway of India from Harbour.

Wah Taj! The vision of Sir Jamset ji Tata comes alive in this resplendent heritage hotel, which rises like a Phoenix overlooking the Harbour.

The hundreds of yatchs and boats dotting the marina. The seagulls were having a field day and were basking in the sun.

This post continues, to check out the eating joints, my shopping Read On
This glorious statue of Shivaj resides right opposite the Gateway of India and its nearby area is the hangout of zillion pigeons.
Cafe Mondegar- one of the institution of Colaba and a must visit indeed. The quirky artwork from Mario Miranda and old fashioned Jukebox add to the ambiance.Enjoy some hearty Continental dishes here.

Close by is the Legendary Leopolds Cafe, its a multi-kulti watering hole of foreigners and has a great bohemian vibe.It had been in news due to 26/11, the bullet marks are still as they were...The Cafe` was extensively mentioned in Shantaram (an amazing read by the way, if you haven't read it yet, go grab a copy now!) Stacks of Shantaram were piled up at the billing counter for sale.

My recco- Try the Hot Cocoa here, its Yummmmmmy!

 Tuck in some Craamel Brownie

Or some Blueberry cheesecake (by the way I didn't eat all of this by myself, I had help at hand!)

Colaba Causeway is a delight for junk jewellery lovers, you can find all sorts of baubles and bijoux here. Like any Harbor town this market is teeming with Naval paraphernalia you'll find brass globes, compass, telescopes fish shaped lock and  God knows what not.

I picked 2 earrings from Causeway. INR 150/- each- ain't that quite a steal?!

Jay walking on Colaba street, came across so many interesting sights..This little girl was doing the tight rope walk in the bylanes of Nariman point..I always saw these kind of performers in Bollywood movies from the 70's you know those Amitabh Bachhan flicks.. it was amazing to see the skill this little child had and saddened at a loss of a childhood :(

We also visited the Naval docks and the buildings were more than 150-200 yrs old (& in pristine condition mind you)!!

Pic from the Naval docks, fancy schmancy yachts the latest toys of the high rollers...

I also did some Street side shopping from Linking Road,Bandra picked up some flip flops
First one cost me a princely INR 150/- the second turquoise one cot INR 225/- these were after a lot of bargaining.

I bought this pair of silver grey flats with lot of embellishment, it wasn't street shopping- I picked these from M & S but they were such great bargains I had to add them to the list, Original Price INR 2500/- sale Price INR 500! That's a Whopping 80% Discount!!!

After this we went star gazing to Bandstand and tried to spot the houses of Bollywood star, guess we were not the only looney toons, hordes of people were patiently waiting for the sights of their favorite star!

Now back to the main reason for the trip- The Big Fat Indian Wedding of my sis-in-law.
It was a Punjabi Girl-Gujarati Boy wedding so the main wedding ceremony was held during day time.(I was specially amazed on how delicious the Gujarati food was!!) The Engagement, cocktail, mehendi, wedding and reception were back to back events and being the Punjabi Bahu- dressing up was indeed a big KRA for the events.

My makeup skills were put to good use as I became the resident makeup artist for all the ladies in the family. Apparently my Mom in law & all the other ladies in the family have all been avid readers of my blog and I was pleasantly shocked by my blog's popularity in the family!!!
I mean I had been trying to keep it hush-hush lest everyone think that I've gone cuckoo over lipstick and blushes. But it was heart warming when all the young and the young-at-heart Gals in the family, asked me to their makeup for all the occasions and actually sought makeup tips and tricks and product recommendations. Yooo Hoo I was in Cloud number 9. Doing all that much makeup was exhausting but fun none the less!!!

The makeup artist who did the Bridal makeup had been in the business for over 2 decades. She had also received training from MAC She had the perfect collection of MAC products and used all MAC products in the makeup (which I found rare, most Artist' mix a lot of brands and even use Kryolan for videography purpose.) I got to pick up some very good makeup tips from the MUA.

Loved the elegant & simple floral decorations for the day time wedding.

Here's a bit of Mehendi I got done on my palms during the Mehendi & Sangeet ceremonies.

Here's a little glimpse from the Bride's Lehanga, the daytime wedding event involved traditional Gujarati white & red saree the bride switched to this resplendent lehanga at the time of Reception party..

After all the ceremonies and rituals of the wedding were over, we heaved a sigh of relief- it was a welcome break to be back in Jeans and Tees after an overdose of ethnic Indian attire, high heels, heavy jewellery and full on makeup. Before we headed back we enjoyed the Colaba causeway once more and soaked in the sights of the endless sea.

Last but not the least, my most favorite pic from the trip,  captures the setting sun, the Arabian sea, Palm fronds and cool breeze.. Ahh Heaven...
