MAC retro matte lipstick Ruby Woo,review and lip swatches

There's a fire starting in my heart
its reaching a fever pitch and it's bring me out the dark
Finally I can see you crystal clear
it's my 'Ruby Woo'

There are red lipsticks and then there is MAC Ruby Woo. Like the red apple tempted Eve, Ruby Woo has tempted and teased me senseless. For me this is epitome of classic Red and reminds me of pin up girls & old Hollywood glamour.

Its a flat blue based red, and despite it bluish undertones I feel it would suit duskier skin tones as well. This shade instantly makes me feel like a strong & sexy woman. It assures you a steady stream of eyeballs (in a good way!)

Packaging-Comes in standard MAC's black bullet shaped tube.Priced at INR 990/- for 3grams of lippie (pricey indeed, but then all of MAC is)

Love the retro white on black lettering!

  Ingredients

MAC lippies smell of delicious vanilla and the smell is very pleasant. When MAC says Matte lipstick - it means 'M-A-T-T-E' this baby is dry as desert & wouldn't budge from your lips. Its an intense retro pigment and it needs well hydrated and exfoliated lips to pull it off.It  stays on and on and on... (sorry Ms. Woo  if I make you sound like Duracell Bunny!)

 Now for some swatches

Should you look for a Ruby Woo dupe- While I'm a firm believer of Value for Money and finding great dupes, there are some things that shouldn't be duped like red hot Ferraris and Red hot Ruby Woo.I had swatched over 30 red lipsticks before I finally realized Ruby Woo is utterly unique and no other lippie (in Indian Market) compares on pigmentation, color pay off & texture. Trust me when I say this, if you are going to buy only 1 single red lipstick in this lifetime and want it to be a timeless classic -go with Miss Ruby Woo.

Here's a video of Lisa Eldridge, where the makeup Goddess herself explains how to get the perfect red lips  a la Dita von Teese with MAC Ruby Woo.

And just for fun here's Ruby Woo, topped off with Revlon Colorburst lip gloss Bordeaux

And here's me pouting for the (imaginary) shutterbugs (sorry couldn't resist it!)

Is Miss Woo tempting you too? comment & tell

xoxo

    1. Hey Shalini- a perfect red lipstick is an absolute must have, till recently I too steered clear of red & just realized what I was missing in my kit. Do check it out (and while you are at it, check out Russian Red as well) :)

    1. If you are just starting out with red try something that you are comfortable with, 'coz this is a bold shade & take some getting used to (but once you acquire a taste for bold red you'd never go back to muted red!) Check out Revlon Really Red that's a nice matte red, else try Inglot matte lip pencil number 21.
