A few weeks back I was looking for a black kohl pencil,I went to a high end drugstore brand and swatched a few kohl pencil. An overly painted young SA enthusiastically rattled all the virtues of the kohl to me like a pretty parrot.
Here's how the conversation panned out
Me-"is this eyeliner safe for wearing on my waterline?"
SA-"yes Ma'am it's safe, it is waterproof, smudgeproof, will last for 12 hours on your eyes"
Me- (looking confused)" do you know what is Waterline?!"
SA-(brimming with confidence) "yes Ma'am Waterline- is when you apply eyeliner and your eyes start to water- that is called Waterline!"
Me-I looked flabbergasted for a moment and then I burst out laughing!!
Well I wasn't trying to be mean but that was honestly the dumbest thing I had ever heard!!
If you've ever been told the lighter foundation shade will make you fairer, or you don't need a moisturiser 'coz you have oily skin, or you SA sold you a lip liner as an eyeliner
It's Payback time, this is your chance to finally vent, rant and let it all out. Go ahead and tell us all what's the dumbest thing a Makeup Sales Associate has said to you?
LOL..hehehe..did u tell her what it actually means?? ;)
ReplyDeleteOh yes I explained to her & she looked at me like I just spoke Greek and Latin :D LOL
Delete"Madam aap itni dark hai apko toh foundation use karna hi chahiyea"..well, are u even supposed to tell the customer that and there we go again foundation for fair skin and that nonsense
ReplyDeleteHahahaha and I thought I had it bad!!! These SAs say the dandiest thing! Imagine even if a supermodel like Naomi Campbell or Tyra banks walked up to their counters they'd still try and convince them they need the lightest foundation shade to look pretty!!!
Deletefunniest thing: madam this mascara has vitamin E and it will make your lashes grow like hair!! (yeah i definitely want 2 feet long lashes :P)
ReplyDeleteDumbest thing: "madam yeh foundation best hai.yeh appko gora banayga" and tries to rub the little bit into your wrist as if its a challenge and ur wrist turns red.
Ha ha ha I fell off my chair laughing when I read "it'll make your lashes grow like hair"!!!!
DeleteROFL!!! i am reading ur post as well as comments from Ankita.... Poor SAs try so hard to convince u na
ReplyDeleteGiggles yup sure the creative stuff they tell us can win a pulitzer prize!
Deletehahaha!!! well which store was that? :P
ReplyDeletei've my list too..all the light foundation n crap
Bourjois/lifestyle/VK mall.. Do tell I'm all ears to hear your experiences
DeleteI said this foundation is tad lighter the SA said hum foundation gora ban ne ke liye hi to lagate hein! :p Another said why you buying eye shadows as your lid is pigmented, it will make you look aged and all craps! :p
ReplyDeleteHa ha what BS eyeshadow will make ur lids look old!!! Oh man that's just plain pathetic, you shud hav given her a piece of your mind
Deleteyesterday only I went to Chambor to buy dazzle eyeliner in black, it was out of stock, Male SA said madam why don't you try this one its equally good (showing me another black liner). When I said no, he suggested "Madam jab tak wo stock me wapis ayega aap backup k liye ye le lo"... hubby and I started laughing on his face ... I said thanks for your concern and walked away:P
ReplyDeleteHa ha backup ke liye liner!! You shud hav asked him if he was selling makeup or car stepny
DeleteYeah, this dumbass tried to sell me an expired product saying it's ok, it was actually manufactured that day, as if I can't read! :@
ReplyDeleteUh huh that's so disgusting! You shud have informed the store manager atleast about this shoddy service
DeleteI was on the quest to find my first red lipstick and I was with my dad.. LOL enough there already. I went to the Chambor counter and the SA showed me a few shades and I really liked a tomato red like colour. So she asked me whether I wanted to try it on and my mum agreed, so after 5 minutes of lip brush abuse she showed me the mirror and I yelped! I looked like i had just made out with a bottle of ketchup! IT WAS EVERYWHERE! My dad asked me whether I was trying out for the circus and I never went back to the Chambor counter again. XD
ReplyDeleteOh gosh you poor kid, that horrible SA scarred you for life with the makeup brush abuse and making out with ketchup bottle spiel!! LOL I seriously can't stop laughing!!
Deletehaha..ur eyes start to water..thats waterline :D :D The light foundation is always an issue..Mam you are so fair..so u should get this lighter one only :/
ReplyDeleteHa ha these SA's have sworn to make all us Indian girls fairer than snow white- one foundation bottle at a time ;D
DeleteLOL :D m doing most of my shopping online these days..and i really find these SA's quite irritating..they are not well informed about the products and its just sad!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I had fun reading the post and all d comments! :D

ReplyDeleteLooks like foundation is a pain for everyone. I am a bit on the fair side, but I still end up having recommendations for colors that are lighter than my skin tone. They persist on the lightest shade available despite me explaining that I do not want to look like a ghost! I face this issue with compacts and mineral powders as well. Nowadays I lie and say "give me a darker shade, it is for a friend" and only then I get the shade of my choice that actually suits my skin :)
