Beauty on a Budget-Pond's Active Moisture review

After my Empties Project I had been maintaining a very trimmed down stock of makeup and skincare products in my vanity case.So when I ran out of my regular day cream I didn't have a back up one... yeah can you believe that a Beauty blogger running out of face cream?! Yes wonders never cease...

So basically on one of my random grocery store visits I frantically looked around for face creams & realized the skincare aisles didn't have any of my regular favorites in stock.
I was quite literally left scratching my head, whether should I pick up another expensive un-tested cream or order my staples online and wait for 3-4 days for delivery..
Hmmm.. such a travesty.. so while I pondered over this million dollar question this cutesy little blue and white jar of Pond's Active Moisture cream winked at me..it made no big claims about how it will reduce signs of aging, make me look years younger, or how it will whiten my skin or make it glow... blah blah you know the whole spiel, it just said its a 'Revitalizing 24 hours moisturizer'...

 
I picked it up and saw it retails for Rs 120/- for 50 grams, I decided what the heck, lets try, how bad can it be...I came home washed my face and slathered on some Pond's Active Moisture.

Now surprise surprise , while this is no miracle worker it is a pretty damned good face cream. Comes in a sturdy glass jar and blue cap.The moisturizer has a beautiful subtle floral fragrance and white whipped texture. 

It sinks into my normal-oily combination skin (normal skin with oily T zone), gives a smooth well hydrated texture, doesn't leave greasy residue and best of all gives a good semi matte finish to my skin. It also keeps the shine on my oily forehead under control and I have used it as a night cream and have woken up to good fresh looking skin.

I didn't experience any heavy greasiness in the morning with this baby.I have used it continuously for 2 weeks and my skin is quite happy with it.I'm even more surprised that this little budget warrior actually costs so less and works so much better than many pricier cream I have been using for a while.

I'm definitely repurchasing and would recommend you check this little jar of  beauty on a budget

Expert Speak-Skin care tips for Indian skin

I mean we have all had those days when our skin just refused to make up its mind and acted up really bad, being oily and yet flaky at the same time!!

So today we have Dr. Kiran Lohia, a trained M.D, specializing in Dermatology walk us through the special Skin care tips for our Indian skin.

"Indian skin needs specialized care. As a dermatologist, I have seen all different skin types. However, in my experience, Indian skin suffers the most from its environment. India has very strong sunlight, weather fluctuations and an excess amount of pollution, leading to pigmented, dull and often sensitive skin."

To prevent these skin woes, follow the below skin care tips for Indian skin!

1 – Avoid the Sun!

The sun in India is very strong. It even penetrates the windows in your car and your home. The more sun exposure you have, the greater the risk of pigmentation disorders and the more aging your skin suffers from! So, try to avoid the sun if possible, particularly during the hours of 10am-3pm when the sun is the strongest.

2 – Use Sun Block!

Unfortunately, the sun cannot be avoided entirely. So, always remember to apply sun block of at least SPF 30++ where there is both UVB and UVA protection. UVB protection will help prevent tanning, while UVA protection will help prevent both pigmentation and aging. Remember to apply it 30 minutes before sun exposure and repeat every 3-4 hours so the effect does not wears off.

3 – Omega Fatty Acids Help Protect Your Skin!

Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are increasingly being shown to have a beneficial effect on the skin and the heart. Data has shown that it helps prevent and protect against UV light induced injury while also strengthening the epidermal barrier! Try to eat these super powered macronutrients daily by consuming nuts, flaxseed and fresh fish. If you cannot get them in your diet, then start supplements!

Skin care,Body care and foot care lotions and potions haul

My Empties project made a major dent in my stash of lotions & potions and for once I was left scarcely any face cream,body lotions face wash,foot cream etc.I usually burn right through my fun money (read my makeup & toiletries budget) very quickly by splurging on makeup... (yes that is a separate expense head in my personal budget , which would exceed the GDP of a small nation :P) This time round barring my Sleek Haul,I decided to go easy on makeup and instead tank up on some much needed skin care ,body care & foot care stuff.

Yeah I know a face wash or night cream or a foot soak is hardly half as exciting as a juicy lip gloss or a bold lip color but then, to look good you need a good skin and ergo a whole bunch of potions. This time I decided to haul from Purplle.com and Flipkart.com.

Most of the stuff I ordered were repeat buys and I'd recommend these. Detailed product wise reviews coming right up.

From Purplle.com I hauled  Vaseline Cocoa body lotion, Shahnaz Hussain Shasilk Matte moisturizer, Shahnaz Hussain Beauty Balm,Himalaya Oil control lemon face wash & Nivea Oil regulating toner.
Purplle's services were good, though they didn't have one of my ordered item in stock, for which they issued me a store credit.Their customer services team was very prompt & courteous to both phone and email queries.
The delivery took 4 or 5 days which was a bit slow as per me.I used a 10% discount coupon from my Kotak credit card ,on my entire order.
Other thing is that they require minimum INR 499/- order size for availing free shipping. Which is fair from a business profitability point of view, it does keep me from ordering items on a whim...Hmmm.. what do you think about a minimum order quantity to be eligible for free shipping?

Foot care haul from Flipkart.com- Yes before playing footsie I do need a good pedi :D

This was my first time ordering Makeup & Beauty items from Flipkart.
Flipkart was extremely fast in their delivery, considering they had to deliver items locally within Delhi, they took under 24 hours to deliver my items,though a weird thing was that for the 4 items I had purchased they sent 4 different parcels to my place, each containing 1 item only. I mean one parcel came with a single nail file!!! Isn't that very unusual?
Overall I think I might be returning to Flipkart, I'm a restless soul and I want my goodies quickly!

Overall I'm very happy & very satisfied with my haul,now I'm heading off to give myself some TLC with my lotions. You Girls have a great day ahead :)

The Empties Project !!

Any Beauty Blogger will tell you that she has a stash of makeup and potions that she plans to finish yet somehow the lure of the next new and shiny thing means, most of these babies don't get their due TLC.Yes we Beauty bloggers canb be bad mothers to our own lotion potions!

I had started my covert Project codenamed 'The Empties' in Jul'12 with the sole aim of emptying out all my half used bottles of lotion-potions.

I had underestimated the amount of semi used stuff I had hoarded and it took me full two months to actually make a dent in my stash of unused/semi used items. So after 2 full months of hard work-involving long showers, slathering on tons of body butter and spritzing a lot of perfume here's what the end result of my The Empties project Looks like!

Phew!! Thtat's one long list! I finished some 21 items!! It sure does feel good finishing off all the stuff I had been hoarding. Thanks a ton to Nivedita- from Beauty at times is skin deep for constantly motivating me to keep at the Project ;)

Next I'm on my Makeup empties project-wish me luck Girls! :D
