A close friend of mine is flying off to Bangkok &  asked me if I could suggest some good makeup & Beauty stores to shop from in Bangkok.

If you check out the stuff I hauled on my last Bkk trip, you'd know that I had done a a PhD in beauty shopping :P !!

So I thought I'll share some shopping nuggets with you guys as well. Read on to find out What makeup & beauty stuff  to buy while in Bangkok.

Bangkok has a whole range of makeup & beauty stores to serve every taste & pocket.To give you a brief idea I'll break down the beauty shopping hangouts in three-

• Drugstore chains like Watsons & Boots
• Local brands-Beauty Buffet, Oriental Princess ,Saboo handmade soaps
• International Brands- NARS,MAC, bobby Brown,Shu Umera ,Clinique, Dior, Cle de peau Baute, Etude House

DRUGSTORE CHAINS

Watsons & Boots are popular chemist stores and carry a wide range of drugstore makeup brands. Head to MBK Mall and both these outlets are on the same floor few meters apart.

Watsons is mass market store you can find all your essentials at reasonable prices here.Its good if you want to buy Korean products ,BB creams,IN2IT makeup etc, you can also find Maybelline /L'oreal /Revlon here.Testers are limited fro Revlon / L'oreal & Maybelline. Prices are much lower for these brands at Watson than other store.

Boots is present in most prominent locations and has some amazing bath & body products. The prices are very tempting and Boots often runs promotional Buy 1 Get 1 offers, so keep an eye out for these.You can buy Boots' in house makeup brand-No. 7,Soap & Glory here. If you are looking for Bio Oil,Toni & Guy hair products, FCUK body cream,Eucerin etc this is the place to stock up on it. Boot's  Natural Collection & Boots Therapy is a great buy, product quality of these bath & body products is comparable to The Body shop at a fraction of the cost.

Tip-Boots outlets at airport (domestic terminal I think) usually don't offer Buy 1 Get 1 offers & the product selection is rather limited.If you like something at the outlet in main city snag it up quick!

Tips for shopping in Sarojini Nagar market for clothes,footwear,accessories and home decor items.

1.Leave your Boyfriend/Hubby at the Cinemas /Mall and head to SN with your Girlfriends, men start hyperventilating at the sight of so much girly stuff ,crowd and heat,chances are you'll have to leave the market in under 30 mins if you go with a guy [happens with me every time!! :( ]

2.Travel using metro (nearest Metro stn. INA) /auto instead of bringing your car, parking can be a huge pain during rush hours.

3.Arrive early- the crowd is sparse & the shop keepers want to do clock in the first sale of the day called 'bohni' which is auspicious & serious business for them so they would settle for reasonable price quickly.

4.Wear comfortable clothing & footwear as there is a lot of walking in  crowded space, carry a bottle of water & your shades

5.Bargain-Part of the fun of shopping in SN is the bargaining. But most of the stuff is well below bargain basement price, so negotiate well & do it with a smile & you are sure to score a good deal.Quote a just price so its a Win-win for both you & the seller.

6. Size Labeling isn't accurate on most of the clothes,don't rely on the seller's judgement on what will fit you, take help from your GF to get an estimate of size. When in doubt go for a size larger, you can get it altered if needed.

7.Always wash/ get the item dry cleaned before wearing.

Lakme Eye color quartet Desert Rose

Lakme Eye color quartets were one of the revolutionary products from Lakme` stable when first launched I think around 3-4 years back. The extremely fine texture of the shadows, beautiful shade selection and nice metallic and pearlescent finish meant these shadows soon became bestsellers. 

Now the Indian market has a slew of brands flooding in latest products and the choice is enormous, lets see how does this old war horse from Lakme fair in the eyeshadow fight.

The Packaging-The product packaging though pleasing to the eyes is not sturdy and my eyeshadows have borne the brunt of poor packaging by crumbling.The display makes the quad easy to find in the makeup kit ,yet they wont survive the rough & tumble of travel. The applicators provided in the kit are of no practical use.

The shades-The Desert Rose palette has a winning combination of beautiful shades.The 2nd shade from right the peachy copper is a gorgeous shade has an almost foiled effect. The light creamy yellow shade is a good highlight color, the light pink doesn't translate to well on the skin and the metallic sheen makes the pink barely discernible. The dark bronze shade is quire rich and can be used for teeming up with bridal / Indian ethnic attire.

Parrot inspired EOTD

As a kid I had a feisty pet talking parrot,we found it when it was really small with a broken wing, we nursed him & he lived up to a grand old age.I named it 'Pattu' yeah I know not very innovative name, but back in the day pets had simple names (compare that to the modern day pet names-my hubby plans to name his next Labrador puppy -Leonidas I  !!!)
 Mr. Pattu was one talkative fellow and could swear like a Sailor and whistle a tune or two, he loved his green chilies and loved to repeat my mom's scolding right back at me like a tape record.

What started as a drab Thursday morn  turned in to super awesome one for me. I grabbed the latest copy of Cosmopolitan's March 2012 issue and after ogling at Malaika's stunning Herve Leger bandeau dress & fuchsia lippie I  flipped over to my favorite Beauty section.

What caused my Heart to skip a few beats was the sight of my face staring back at me from the magazine!!!

Yes buttercups, you read it right Yours truly has been featured as one of the New Age Guru in the cosmetics universe by Cosmopolitan Magazine!!!

My Cupcakes Its springtime & time to say hello to bright & vivid shadows to make way for golds ,bronze & rust eyeshadows of winter time -(though honestly Delhi weather has been so confused-it turns hot one day, next day it rains, then the city turns in to a dust bowl and then suddenly the temperatures drop by 5 degrees!!)
