OMG!! GRAZIA ADMITS TO DIGITALLY SLIMMING DUCHESS CAMBRIDGE WAISTLINE FOR ROYAL WEDDING ISSUE!!!

It was only 5 weeks back that us girls were wondering Duchess Catherine where have all the curves gone?
The unanimous voice in which all the readers appreciated her healthier version (circa 2004) gave me hope that Thank God the healthy female form is still in vogue. Now imagine my horror of horrors when I read Grazia Magazine's confession that they had digitally altered Duchess Cambridge's waistline for their Royal Wedding UK issue published in May 2011.

Grazia had denied allegations of digitally altering the photo to slim down Kate, however following a complaint to the Press Complaints Comission which highlighted discrepancy between the line of corset and fabric of her skirt, the magazine has finally accepted the Photoshop blunder and blamed the 'accident' on their reproduction team.

Grazia's explanation was that they wanted a great image of the Duchess on her own, but all the snaps had Duke too,so the reproduction team removed him from the pics, leaving Duchess with only one arm in the pics,so they copied over her arm to complete the picture. In the process they inadverently slimmed down Kate's waist

This has reignited the touchy debate on impossible aspiration of female form in media. Intentional or not, the image indeed further reduced Kate's tiny form.If a magazine is digitally altering images they should mention it in the publication.
Personally I find it appalling that we women are bombarded with impossible to achieve images in magazines and media creates un-fair and unrealistic pressure on women in general.
If a slimmed down Kate isn't slim enough for these mags, what hope lesser mortals like us have?

What do you feel on this issue, do leave your comments behind I'd love to hear your opinion.

  3. I've worked in advertising. A 'mistake' of this proportion is not inadvertent.
But they seem to be better media watchdogs in the UK. They had banned the ads featuring Julia Roberts & Christy Turlington. In India, anything goes. Which is really sad for us.

  6. Ik- I agree the explanation is dumb beyond belief...
Indgal-great to hear from you, but seriously Media should be tad more responsible

Pookhie-I agree but I'd say Indian media is still in its infancy and nowhere as ferocious as their evolved western counterparts..and who's to say UK Media has better watchdogs.. 'News of the World' scandal just highlighted the murky underbelly of UK media..I guess we as individuals will have to make sure that media doens't color our opinions too deeply..

  7. Nitika- I agreeits un-professional, I'm personally a big fan of Grazia, guess will have to be more circumspect about what I read or see there..

Benish-Personally I have nothing against photshopping, so long as they are removing fly away hair or smootheing skin tone or improving overall image quality but altering body dimensions is ridiculous. I think magazines should mention the image has been photo-shopped at least some impressionable minds won't try to starve themselves to achieve un-healthy figure
