IS KATE'S WEDDING GOWN AN HOMAGE TO PRINCESS GRACE'S?

We've all been gushing over the Royal Wedding and the newly anointed HRH Duchess of Cambridge-Catherine's wedding gown has become an overnight sensation.
A beautiful mix of tradition & modernity Kate's wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton a protege` of Alexander Mc Queen seems to pay an homage to Princess Grace of Monaco's wedding dress designed by Helen Rose.

Kate Middleton & Grace Kellly both commoners went on to marry their respective Prince Charming in fairy tale weddings. Grace Kelly an established Hollywood star married Rainier III, Prince of Monaco in 1956. Her wedding gown was a gift from the MGM studio and was designed by Helen Rose from their wardrobe department. The dress included rose point lace over silk faille and silk tulle, with seed pearls.

The intricate lace applique` bodice & sleeves of Kate's gown mirror those on the gown of Grace Kelly who became Princess Grace of Monaco after her marriage.

To add to the similarities, both the gowns share a high-waisted,full skirted silhouette. Both the gowns have long & dramatic train, accompanied by sheer veils with intricate embroidery ,diamond tiaras and exact small yet elegant bouquets.

Both ladies looked elegance personified on their 'D' day. It appears Sarah Burton indeed paid an homage of sorts to Helen Rose's iconic & timeless classic dress.
It just shows how classic can be contemporary!
