DO YOU CHECK THE EXPIRY DATE OF YOUR MAKEUP?

Hello Ladies, plz take a moment & think when was the last time you cleared out your cosmetics drawers /cabinet & did you check the expiry date on the product at the time of buying it?

While we all drool collectively at the sight of new brands or cosmetics in our heady state we often forget to check the most important detail of all-The Makeup Expiry date.
Well its that time of the year when we should all do a bit of stock taking of our makeup treasure chest and weed out cosmetics which are past their 'use by' date & give them a decent burial.

All makeup items & beauty tools if not cleaned & stored properly are ideal breeding ground for germs & bacteria, which can cause eye infection, skin break outs etc etc..you know none of this is good for your beauty regime. The water based makeup items have the lowest shelf life & highest chances of contamination.

THINGS TO DO

1.At the time of purchasing the makeup item read the date of manufacturing and date of expiry, try & buy fresher stock of makeup & not just what the SA hands over to you. Always check these details yourself.

2.For imported makeup always ensure you read the date of manufacturing and not just date of import.
3.If you live in cities with warmer climate store your lipsticks, lip glosses & cream blush in a clean section in your fridge as this will keep the makeup safe from higher temperature & prevent spoilage.

4.Always give your all your makeup brushes etc weekly wash in recommended cleaning agent else you can use a gentle shampoo to clean your brushes.

5. Dont share makeup items as its the easiest wasy to catch the germs & bacteria, avoid using testers on your face, lips or eyes and definitely do not use the makeup brushes available in the departmental stores.

6.Keep your makeup in a dry area, away from direct heat or sunlight. (And no leaving your makeup in your car's glove compartment at 45 degrees temperature is not a good idea !!)

Go through the quick list below

  • Mascara — 3 months.(Remember not to repeatedly pump your mascara wand in the tube it will increase chances of contamination & drying)
  • Liquid Foundation and Concealer — up to 12 months.
  • Cream Blush and cream eyeshadow — up to 12 months.
  • Powder Blush and Eyeshadow — 1 year to 2 years (check your product for specifics)
  • Eyeliner and Lipliner Pencils — Up to 2 years.(sharpen your pencils regularly and clean tip with tissue after use)
  • Liquid Eyeliner — 6 months or less.
  • Lipstick — 1-2 years (plz check packaging for specifics)
  • Moisturizers and Skin Care — 1 to 2 years.
  • Nail polish-up to 2 years
Remember to dump anything you haven't used for a year in the trash can.
